Dread Nation - Justina Ireland

Is it just me or is this slow moving and not that interesting? I am trying to get into it, but reading a take on the United States Civil War via zombies is just okay. I am really not being pulled in by the main character (Jane) at all while reading. There seems to be some sort of subterfuge going on that she and her frenemy may investigate at this point in the book.

I am slightly intrigued of the nation of African Americans and Native Americans being forced to be trained on how to put down shamblers (zombies) at schools. However, that whole thing with white people not learning (except in cases of self defense) didn't make much sense to me at all. I get this is using the Civil War and the U.S. in the 1800s as a backdrop, but that feels a little false to me.
