The Man in the Brown Suit-24 Tasks

The Man in the Brown Suit - Agatha Christie

Ugh. I don't have much more to say than this. I realized that I don't like the Race books as much as the Superintendent Battle books.

The book opens on Anne Beddingfeld who recounts how her scattered father ended up dying. She decides that she is going to go to London to live with her family's solicitor and in the midst of all this she is there to see a man falling onto a live track and being killed. Some random doctor stops, says hey this guy is dead and leaves. This of course has Anne finding a note and reads it and is somehow embroiled in this whole thing after reading the words Kilmorden Castle on it.

From there we have Anne playing bright young thing, amateur sleuth. She eventually finds out what Kilmorden Castle means (it's a ship) and decides to book passage on it and there she meets a number of people, including Colonel Race.

This book was so boring. I just didn't really care for anyone while reading and struggled to finish this. I think when Christie tries to turn to an adventure style writing with spies it never works for me. I was reminded of "The Big Four" while reading this (not in a good way). At one point after a particular scene I maybe went, did that just happen. And then I kept doing it while reading.

The book's setting moves from London, the ship, to Capetown. You would think that somewhere in there would be a story that would grab me. I just ended up bored senseless.

This ultimately was among one of my least favorite Christie books.
